Isle of Harris
Coastal Photography Workshop
17-23 Oct 2026
5 days 6 nights
Join us on this small group photography workshop on the wild and beautiful Isle of Harris.
This is a workshop for those who love the outdoors and being in wild and remote places. Our focus for the week will be on creating a warm and supportive atmosphere where you are inspired to explore and experiment with different ways of photographing and interpreting the landscape.
We will be based in a beautiful house on the shoreline of Seilebost overlooking Luskentyre Bay with direct beach access. The workshop will be fully catered by us allowing for total freedom to be out when the light and conditions are best, guided by our extensive knowledge of the island, it’s weather and tides. Consequently each day will look different but we will be visiting the beautiful beaches of Luskentyre, Scarista and Bagh Steinedh; the Golden Road and Bays area and the Isle of North Uist (weather and ferry permitting!).
There will also be plenty of time to relax at the house which is designed for you each to have your own space as well as a lovely open plan communal area for relaxing, socialising and some informal teaching sessions.
As leaders we are both passionate about encouraging and helping others to develop their photography using techniques such as long exposure, multiple exposure, ICM and smartphone photography. We will both be on hand at every location to gently guide and encourage you whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned photographer, everyone is welcome.

I have spent a lot of time visiting and helping run photography workshops on Harris over the past few years. It is a place that gets under your skin - the wild and remote landscapes with endless sandy beaches, rocky edges and an abundance of wildlife; it is where I feel most alive. I would love to share some of this wonderful island with you, to inspire your photography and help you come away with some new ways of creating meaningful images. There will be plenty of grand vistas and stunning light to capture but I will be gently encouraging you to also focus in on the small details and intimate landscapes which abound here, helping you to create truly unique images. Best known for my phone photography I will also be available to guide you through other creative photography techniques such as ICM and multiple exposure. Do join us, we are very much looking forward to meeting you.

I first fell in love with the west coast of Scotland when I spent a few months working with the red deer project on the Isle of Rum in the 1980’s and have more recently been visiting the Outer Hebrides as often as I can. Whilst my main interest when at home is close-up work with fungi, insects, and slime moulds, my other passion is coastal landscape photography and there is no better place than Harris for this with its unique colours and light, and it’s feeling of exhilarating wildness. The scenery is so stunning it can feel a challenge to come away with images that adequately capture the feelings and emotions you were experiencing when actually there. I frequently use long exposure and ICM techniques to simplify images and look forward to sharing the experience and ideas with you.
We would love you to join us both in this beautiful place and to help to find and develop ways to capture it for yourself.
